Introduction Our Clients Legal and Compliance team is looking for an individual to join the Compliance function in the role of a Compliance Manager.
This individual will need to pro-actively and constructively assist the business area and Board in managing its responsibility in compliance with all regulatory and legislative requirements and to minimise compliance risks.
The individual will be required to ensure that the insurance license is operated within the prescribed regulatory and legal frameworks by facilitating and monitoring compliance with the policies, procedures and practices embedded within the company and to draft and review policies in line with regulatory changes.
This role will further include administrative assistance with statutory profile updates on the respective licenses.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure appropriate Compliance Governance frameworks, policies and standards are defined, approved, implemented and adopted within the company’s business units.
  • Keep senior management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts, but also objectively highlight potential risk areas or compliance breaches.
  • Establish and implement an effective compliance programme, including compliance monitoring plans to prevent illegal, unethical or improper conduct.
  • Together with the Legal Team, implement all necessary actions to ensure achievement of the compliance framework objectives and effective compliance programme
  • Continually test alignment and enablement of compliance management practices and company practices with industry relevant regulation and legislation.
  • Utilise and improve on the current compliance frameworks as may be required by the applicable legislation and new legislative developments.
  • Develop, initiate, maintain and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of the compliance programme and its related activities.
  • Understand and interpret regulatory Market Conduct, customer related legislation and good practice and formulate plans to ensure the company meets its compliance obligations.
  • Stay abreast of legislative developments and implement recommendations as per Group compliance standards or tailor makes solutions appropriate for the business.
  • Maintain relationships with the business areas, internal and external audit and other related compliance risk management functions.
  • Provide guidance to business units on specific provisions of the applicable Acts and communicate new regulatory requirements and risks where necessary.
  • Analyse, interpret and collate management information.
  • Submission of statutory compliance returns to relevant Regulatory bodies
  • General assistance to the Legal team on ad-hoc projects.
 
Qualifications
  • A tertiary qualification preferably in the field of law or compliance
  • Advantageous: Postgraduate degree or equivalent Certificate in Compliance Management or CISA accredited Compliance Officer (CPRAC)
 
Knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of long-term insurance law is essential
  • Knowledge of investment regulation is advantages
  • Relevant experience in the financial services industry and previous compliance experience within the insurance industry could be an advantage.
