Smart Home Specialist
The primary objective of the Smart Home Specialist is to build a sustainable new business unit within the company. He/she will be responsible for the establishment, growth and profitability of the new product set. This strategic thinker must be able to work within a team to support our sales, technical and procurement divisions.  Strategic planning is therefore essential. This requires a comprehensive knowledge of the market, our competition and the solutions or products that the company can provide. The Smart Home Specialists will work with various members of the company’s team to maximise profitability and become the leaders in this field in Southern Africa

Education/ Skills /Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of technical, commercial and product marketing experience within the Smart home.
  • Proven experience developing and delivering a Smart Home solution
  • Experience & Passion in Consumer Electronics, Human-Machine Interactions and emerging technologies.
  • Experience with wireless communication standards, e.g. Bluetooth Low Energy, ZWave,Zigbee, RF433, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Thread, etc.
  • Work well within a team
  • Experience devising and successfully executing product strategies that drive the adoption of new technology or processes within a dealer network.
  • Experience communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working within a product team or similar environment
  • Strong ownership and bias for action; ability to internalise goals and work independently to create appropriate action plans for those goals
  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to analyse issues and create appropriate tactical plans
  • Meticulous attention to detail: ability to juggle many tasks in parallel without lowering your quality bar
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, innovative, and rapidly evolving industry and business organization

  • A Smart home specialist will be expected to build relationships with new and existing clients. They therefore require strong communication and presentation skills.
  • A Smart Home Specialist will have the support from the relevant Account Managers and BDMS to follow through on daily processes.
  • Generate leads and cold calling prospective customers
  • Develop opportunities in Smart Home target markets
  • Nurturing and developing relationships with key accounts
  • Attending regular meetings with clients
  • Understand the company’s core values
  • Develop market-driven solutions, products and concepts within the Connected Home
  • Engage with strategic customers to identify common consumer and industry needs within the connected home space
  • Be the product expert in the connected home category including, features, functions, technology, market needs and use cases
  • Define and document detailed product features, functions, and requirements
  • Study and benchmark emerging technologies and solutions to define technology roadmaps
  • New product introduction plans within regions and various channels
  • Travel with Sales to strategic customers in pre-sales phase in order to assist in selling of the concept and product
  • Support technology introductions and new product launches at trade events
  • Manage the product throughout the product lifecycle
  • Must be able to travel 20-30% of the time
  • Exhibit professional appearance and conduct while providing a world-class customer experience

Planning and Strategy

  • Conduct research to identify new markets and customer needs
  • Arrange business meetings with prospective clients and convert into new business
  • Provide trustworthy feedback and pre and after-sales technical support
  • Build long-term relationships
  • Drive product launches including working with public relations team, executives, and other product management team members
  • Monitor the business and refine the forward-looking roadmap
Work with the team to develop proposals that speaks to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives. Identify opportunities based on new /current products


  • Define or outline business strategy for each new month
  • Strategy must be focused both on financial gain and customer satisfaction
  • Regular interaction with Account Managers and BDMs to ensure they follow through on strategy and thereby maximise growth
  • Provide feedback and information on market and competition. This ensures that we identify new markets and customer needs
  • Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales.
  • Build long-term relationships with new and existing customers
  • Promote an organizational culture of continuous improvement, winning brand strategy and market leadership in new product development
  • Assist with the validation of products / services
