PURPOSE AND ROLE IN THE BUSINESS:
 
Provide a project accounting service to the Venetia Underground Project.  The incumbent will provide accounting & financial management services to the Project, ensuring that costs between cost system and SAP are aligned and correctly reported, and that the change management Project procedures are adequately adhered to.
 
KEY RESULT AREAS:
 
 STRONG INTERNAL CONTROL AND GOVERNANCE PROCESSES 
  • Formulate and maintain appropriate project financial procedures
  • Payment Terms reviews and updates
  • Ensure appropriate sign off and segregation of duties is in place
  • Identify and implement best practice relating to project accounting and financial control
  • Monitor the project team’s adherence to relevant policies and procedures
  • Compliance to all accounting standards, and ensure alignment with IFRS and company policies
 FINANCIAL AND PROJECT PERFORMANCE REPORTING 
  • Ensure that appropriate reports are available from SAP to assist Management in accessing and extracting relevant information
  • Responsible for the financial and performance reporting of the Project to internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate the process relating to foreign payments in line with company standards and project procedures
  • Responsible for the management and control of budgets, commitments, expenditure, forecasts (FEC), vs authorized budget to indirect costs and the production of project financial reports.
  • Manage and deliver various scheduled and ad hoc financial management or accounting related assignments.
MONTHLY ACCOUNTING        
  • Manage the co-ordination of receipt and approval of invoices and ensures appropriate checks for validity and budget allocation prior to approval
  • Responsible for the month and year-end processes:
    • Perform monthly journals, allocation and accruals
    • Environmental Calculation and Journal posting
    • Coordinates the preparation and integration of project incremental indirect costs
    • Capitalisation of Assets and depreciation reallocation to AUC
    • Control of Stock account
  • Ensure alignment of SAP vs cost system with monthly reconciliation of actual costs, budgets and forecasts
  • Forecasting and budgets:
    • Prepare and consolidate Project indirect cost
    • Co-ordinate and analyze Total Project expenditure for various rounds of forecasting and budgets.
  • Monitor and advise project planners and managers to support the cost estimating, cost control and cost forecasting activities
  • Identify, investigate and forecast variance trends, and if required, develop corrective action plans in conjunction with management
  • Follow up on variances found during the close-out process and ensure appropriate close out of the contracts
  • Coordinate accurate input and review of 6 weekly cash-flow on a weekly basis (Down Payments/Retentions)
  • Project SAP Management and administration:
    • Master Data update
    • Responsible for financial close out of PO’s/Contracts in line with Company procedure
 GENERAL  
  • Effectively engage and communicate with the Project team and other stakeholders.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  (Education & Experience)
 
The successful candidate will meet the following minimum criteria:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in the mining industry.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in SAP & Microsoft Office packages
  • Full understanding of international Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • CA (SA) qualification will be advantageous.
  • Successful completion of the Company’s screening protocols (eg security clearance, qualification verifications).
