Job Title - Server Technician – Level 2
Division - IT Support

Job Purpose:
To provide IT Support and maintenance functions to varied clientele, with specific regard to Server Core Functionalities, Personal Computers, Networks and related IT installations.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Servers – Full Management, Local and Remote, of all servers at client sites.
  • Virtualization – Proficient in Hyper-V and VMWare ESXi 5.0 and later.
  • Storage – Proficient in Network storage, RAID configurations and Read/Write performance.
  • Dell/HP Server Support – Dell iDRAC configuration and usage / HP ILO configuration and usage.
  • Backups – Design, setup, further improve, troubleshoot and restore/disaster recovery operations.
  • Server Infrastructure – Research and understand entire server infrastructure and how it all fits together.
  • In Workshop - Servicing of computing equipment relative to skills, fault-finding and maintenance. Servicing of computers, reloading, upgrading, general fault finding & support.
  • Quotations – Creating and supplying quotations to clients as required and after approval of Management, sending these quotations directly to Client and following up.
  • Field-Service - Servicing of IT equipment relative to skills, fault-finding and maintenance. Liaison with clients regarding replacement of equipment when maintenance costs are no longer feasible. Servicing of computers, reloading, upgrading, general fault finding & support. Setting up of networks, general support & all above.
  • Liaison - Telephonic support to clients, either contractual or ad-hoc.
  • To constantly seek out new revenue generating opportunities to ensure that company targets are met.
  • To ensure that the company internal/external customer care and equal opportunity policies are adhered to at all times
  • To ensure that all client details are fully documented.
  • To manage the administration of the client database.
  • Maintains and monitors records and reports to ensure timely customer services.
  • To appropriately participate in the development of operating goals and objectives for the IT Support unit.

  • To recommend, implement and administer methods and procedures to enhance operations
  • Any other tasks as required by Management and within the scope of the position and tasks
Desired Competencies:
  • General technical knowledge of repairs for the computer and peripheral sector.
  • General technical knowledge of spares for the computer and peripheral sector.
  • Sufficient experience in Windows Server and Workstation OS for support.
  • Sufficient experience in Windows Server and Workstation Anti-virus products for support.
  • A general knowledge in the advance of computer technology.
  • Computer Literacy
  • MS Office suite (Excel / Word / Outlook)
  • SolarWinds products, specifically NCentral and MSP Backup.
  • Autotask & Ticket management.
  • SAGE VIP & Pastel support.
  • Numeracy

Educational Qualifications
  • Post-Senior Certificate qualification essential
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the Microsoft Server Architecture Support and Maintenance sector
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Server Hardware Architecture, Network Routing and LAN/WAN Maintenance
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in the Computer and Peripheral Repairs sector
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Server 2008 - 2016 Platforms, specifically AD and Group Policy.
  • A+ Technical Training
  • MCSE (Specifically for Network Administration) essential
  • Net+ qualification (Specifically for Network Installations) advantageous
Hours of Work
  • 07h45 to 17h00 Monday to Friday
  • Overtime required on a varied basis, as some functions of the position can only be completed after normal business hours
Growth path
  • Through training and further competency exams, the candidate can qualify as a Certified Microsoft Engineer or Server Specialist, effectively allowing for internal advancement in the company.
  • The position has growth in the department which, through valuable experience in the field of expertise, could lead to furthered position as a Team Leader or Management position
