Section Engineer - Maintenance Steel Plant

Location: Middleburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa
Date Posted: 11-10-2018
In the AOD and Boilermakers Section of the Engineering Department, you will manage and implement the mechanical maintenance plan as part of the Engineering Team, in support of steel plant operational objectives. Ensuring that equipment is safe and reliable to operate and that the requirements of the OSH Act and associated standards are communicated and practiced will be a specific goal of this role. As a skilled people manager, you will also be expected to develop an effective maintenance team, and manage their performance. Furthermore, you will manage and oversee investigations and trials, as well as manage maintenance cost. Heat, dust, heights, confined spaces and uneven terrain are part and parcel of the role, and you must thus be able and willing to perform in these conditions.

Indeed, a National Diploma, BEng or BTech Mechanical Engineering with 5 years in a mechanical maintenance field (and at least 2 years in people management) will get you noticed, but strategic and analytical thinking, decisiveness and immunity to pressure will be what keeps our attention. Additionally, you will need knowledge of budget control, root cause failure analysis and the OSH Act, along with strong mechanical insight and proficiency in MS Office. Communication skills (written and verbal) completes the ideal profile. Note that a GCC and People Management Diploma will be advantageous, as will steel industry experience.
